Copyright infringement issues arose from some of the peer-to-peer networks but in spite of this there are many free download music sites and this method of music sharing and delivery has almost taken on a life of its own.
Free MP3 Music Download: What is MP3?
MP3 is a copy of and original audio file that has been formatted and compressed using a specific standard. The term MP3 is a shortcut for MPEG ½ Audio Layer 3 and it is sometimes referred to as MPG3, MPG-3, MPG Level 3, MPG Level III, MPEG 3, etc.
Since MP3’s are compressed copies of the original audio file they are never quite as sharp or clear as the original BUT the differences are often so minute that the casual listener cannot tell the difference between the two sources. Even if you can hear the difference, you’ll probably still listen to MP3’s because of their convenience.

There are two reasons why free MP3 music downloads are widely available:
1. Some very talented musicians find it very hard to get recognized and accepted in the music business. Record companies an labels often pick the talent they sign because a certain look and sound are needed to round out their offerings.
2. Some musicians will create and release free download music in the hope that you’ll like their music enough to seek them out and buy additional music from them. It isn’t uncommon for a musician to release an MP3 that gets a LOT of free downloads which is basically a word-of-mouth vote on the quality of the offering since many music download sites allow reviews of the music. This feedback is invaluable, especially if something new is being tried.
The Internet and free download music sites are changing the music industry because these unknown artists are finding that they can create a following, create their music videos, package their own product, sell online and basically do everything either in-house or by outsourcing rather than giving up control and a large percentage of their profits to a big record label.
