Free music downloads arrive at NMSU

NMSU Housing has joined Ruckus Network, Inc., a multimedia network, to provide students with the opportunity to download free and legal music from numerous artists.The Housing and Residential Life office trial tested the service last semester for students to enjoy free music without facing legal matters."Ruckus is free downloading directly to [a student's] PC," Julie Weber, director of NMSU Housing and Residential Life, said. "It is a great option for students to have."Ruckus offers a variety of music with a library of more than three million songs and is available to all NMSU students living on or off campus; however, Ruckus works best with high speed Internet.

Legal downloading site at Clemson

Clemson University has partnered with Ruckus Network, Inc. to offer students a free and legal way of downloading unlimited music. For those who have yet to recover from the downfall of Napster, the crackdown by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on shared music or the shock of having to pay for mp3s, Ruckus.com provides users with access to more than three million songs of all varieties. On March 10, Ruckus Network, Inc. announced that its service would be available to the Clemson community at no cost to the University or users of the program. The multimedia network can be accessed by both undergraduate and graduate students anytime whether on or off campus.

Students jam online to free, legal tunes

Music downloads are now free and legal for UK students, after UK became part of Ruckus Network Inc. earlier this month.As of Sunday, 4,775 UK students registered and made more than 260,000 legal downloads. Student Government Director of Constituency Services Tyler Fleck said SG started working last year to bring the service to campus.

APSU Offers Free, Legal Music Downloads for Students

As the Tennessee General Assembly is considering legislation requiring state colleges and universities to prevent illegal music downloading to student computers, Austin Peay State University is addressing the issue early.APSU has contracted with Ruckus Network Inc., a Herndon, Va.-based digital media service provider that supplies free and legal downloads specifically for college students. It provides access to more than 3 million songs from the most current Billboard chart toppers to tracks from thousands of indie labels. Also, hundreds of popular movies and television shows are available for legal download through this service.

Hot off the internet and laptops around campus come this week's top ten Ruckus downloads. Students who used Ruckus this week were downloading Chris Brown's and The Dream's music in force. Hopefully next week, when everyone has played these songs to death, we will get some variety in the lineup. Until then here are your hits. You can look to The Bengal each week to find out what your friends who have Ruckus are listening to, that is if you aren't talking to each other for some reason.

Free music available to college students

If there’s one thing anyone should take away from reading this article, I’d like it to be this: STOP STEALING MUSIC OFF OF THE INTERNET. I wish that sentence could be printed in a bigger font because no matter what people hear, they just don’t listen. The Recording Industry Association of America has been suing people consistently for years, and if you haven’t gotten caught yet, consider yourself lucky. It doesn’t matter what peer-to-peer network you use or if you use software like Peer Guardian to try to protect yourself from being caught.
